envisioning in the mountainsHello Beautiful Friend,

I love the festivities and emphasis on family that the holidays bring. One thing that I don’t hear much but I enjoy tremendously is the day after a big celebration. In this case, the day after Christmas.

It’s such a quiet time when everyone is sleeping in or at least resting comfortably at home. Today is especially nice because it has been raining here in LA and the morning after a long night of rain brings refreshing sense of cleansing and clarity.

The perfect time to reflect on important things for the new year.

DAY 7 : Know What You Want

Do you know what you really really want?

We all have whims and superficial desires but digging deep within ourselves to discover what we truly want is not so common. Perhaps the number one reason I see people unable to focus on what is going to make the biggest differences in the long run is that we are easily distracted by immediate needs.

Of course, this is understandable. If a bill is late or due, we want to avoid the negative consequences so we have to focus on getting that settled. This becomes a serious challenge when our lives fall into a pattern of one immediate concern after another. Then they start to pile upon each other and back up leading to even more stress and overwhelm.

Believe me I am intimately familiar with this situation.

The solution?

There is no magic pill for for this that will solve all our immediate issues, but there is a way to make sure that we are always moving forward.

The first step is knowing what you really really want.

If all your immediate needs were paused for a week, whether it be bills or time commitments, errands, repairs, appointments, or anything else, what one thing would bring you the greatest joy if you knew that it would be achieved within one year?

This is an especially important exercise in that it helps to remind us that the deeply important things in life are oftentimes not the most pressing.  Yet, the most pressing concerns take our focus away from that which is most important.

Take some time to reflect on what is truly important for you personally and how can you have more of that or make that happen.

What do you really really want?
